This past Wednesday my family and I began a 54-day Rosary novena with a group of friends. If you have never prayed this novena before it is extremely powerful! Each time that I have prayed it for a specific intention our Blessed Mother has interceded for me. I prayed my very first 54-day Rosary novena with four other women. We prayed it with the intention of our future vocations be it marriage or religious life. I prayed for my future spouse and marriage as this is what I felt God was calling me to. Only a month later I met Adam. I prayed my second 54-day Rosary novena just before Adam and I got married. I felt called to pray it for our wedding and that God would bless us with children. I especially felt called to pray it for our first born. It was then that I wrote in a journal of mine that I had a feeling God would bless us with a baby girl as our first born and that we would name her Gianna. Thanks be to God we were gifted with a little girl and named her Gianna. I prayed another 54-day Rosary novena with my family just last year for the intention of having another baby. Sure enough only a few days into the novena, on the Feast of the Birth of our Blessed Mother, we found out that we were expecting! I have prayed this novena a couple of other times as well, each time receiving beautiful blessings through the hands of our Blessed Mother. Again, this novena is extremely powerful!
I plan to write more about the beautiful ways in which our Blessed Mother has answered my petitions through the Rosary and this novena. For this week’s Family Friday I would like to share the 54-day Rosary novena with you all!
How do you pray a 54-day Rosary novena?
I was actually taught how to pray this novena from a religious sister. While at Franciscan University she told a group of friends and I the story of how she prayed a 54-day Rosary novena for her brother’s future spouse. Her brother met his spouse the day she ended praying the novena. Her brother also had no idea that his sister was praying this for him! This brief meeting was rather providential because even though I went to Franciscan where it is not uncommon to see religious sisters, this sister strangely was not a TOR sister and after this occurrence we never saw her again.
The 54-day Rosary novena includes six nine-day novenas prayed continuously, one after the other. The first three novenas (or 27 days) consist of offering up our petitions. The last three novenas (or 27 days) consist of offering up our thanksgiving for the favors received from this novena. We pray in thanksgiving even if we don’t see how our petitions have been answered. This novena and its prayers are to be prayed along with a daily Rosary. I use a little Rosary Novena booklet that includes the prayers of the novena. Some of the meditations before each decade are some of my favorite Rosary meditations. I have encouraged many of my friends to pray this novena and pray that you would consider praying it sometime too. The great thing about this novena is that it sets you up with good habits to continue praying a daily Rosary even after the novena is completed. The habit of praying a Rosary everyday also helps to learn the prayers of the Rosary if you do not know them yet. It was actually during my first 54-day Rosary novena that I finally learned the prayers of the Rosary along with all the mysteries. I have such a fond memory of praying this novena the first time that each time I pray it I am brought back to when I first met Adam. It is so special to see how God brought us together through our Blessed Mother’s intercession.
